Fantasy Implications: Vernon Davis Out Against the Indianapolis Colts

In what has to be considered surprising news San Francisco 49ers tight end Vernon Davis will miss today's game against the Indianapolis Colts with a hamstring injury. Most signs leading up to the game indicated that Davis would be good to go in this one, but that's not going to be the case.

As eDraft's second-ranked fantasy tight end for Week 3, this hurts a lot of owners who were relying on him to put up a ton of points against a lackluster and banged-up Colts' defense.

Fantasy football owners who have options in the late games on their bench have to act quickly. Rookie tight end Vance McDonald could be a solid option if you have him in deeper leagues. San Francisco's back-up tight end has two catches in two games but will be starting in lieu of Davis in this one. McDonald has the physical ability and athleticism to create mismatches against a Colts' defense that is going to be without linebacker Pat Angerer and safety LaRon Landry

Other bench options in the late games include Charles Clay, Kellen Winslow, Coby Fleener and Zach Miller
