Fantasy Slant: 49ers Trade Vance McDonald to Steelers

The San Francisco 49ers have traded starting tight end Vance McDonald to the Pittsburgh Steelers along with a fifth-round pick in next year's draft in exchange for a fourth-round pick.

Moving McDonald had been bandied about since the 2017 NFL Draft took place during the spring. Either way, the former second-round pick seemed to be a long shot to make the 49ers' roster.

In 11 games (all starts) last season, McDonald recorded 24 receptions for 391 yards and four touchdowns. Look for him to challenge Jesse James for the Steeler's starting tight end job in 2017. Though, there's no real reason to believe McDonald will be a fantasy relevant option unless he finds a solid connection with Ben Roethlisberger immediately.

This move does lower the value James himself might bing in larger fantasy leagues.
