Fantasy Slant: 5 Biggest Studs From Friday's Week 3 Preseason Action

Alex Smith, Quarterback, Kansas City Chiefs

Smith completed a ridiculous 16-of-18 passes for 171 yards with two touchdowns and zero interceptions in a half of action against a horrendous Tennessee Titans defense on Friday evening. Preseason or not, it was one of Smith's best performance since coming to the Chiefs prior to the start of the 2013 season. He connected with Jeremy Maclin seven times on eight targets while hitting Travis Kelce on a beautiful 34-yard strike.

Blake Bortles, Quarterback, Jacksonville Jaguars

Not only did Bortles complete 20-of-29 passes for 245 yards with a score against the Detroit Lions on Friday, he added another 38 rushing yards on four attempts. Rarely do we see a quarterback go for nearly 300 yards in a preseason game, but that's what Bortles did in what was his most impressive overall performance in the pros. This is a tremendous sign heading into the regular season, especially considering he did this against a stout Lions defense.

Matthew Stafford, Quarterback, Detroit Lions

Unlikely to play in the preseason finale next week, Stafford finishes his exhibition slate having completed 19-of-25 passes for 308 yards with three touchdowns and zero interceptions. Friday night alone, the veteran completed 11-of-15 passes for 173 yards and two scores against the Jacksonville Jaguars. His night included a 62-yard touchdown strike to Golden Tate

Jeremy Maclin, Wide Receiver, Kansas City Chiefs

For the second consecutive week, Maclin connected on a touchdown from Alex Smith. Considering Chiefs receivers failed to catch a single touchdown last year, this is some pretty big news for the team. Still trying to find a relationship with Smith in his first preseason with the team, Maclin caught seven of the eight passes thrown in his direction.

Golden Tate, Wide Receiver, Detroit Lions

Tate appears fully ready for the regular season. Heading into Friday's outing against the Jaguars, this emerging fantasy star had caught all four of the passes thrown in his direction for 78 yards with a score. On Friday alone, he caught all three passes thrown to him for 91 yards and a touchdown, bringing his preseason spits to 7-169-2. Not too shabby.

Travis Kelce, Tight End, Kansas City Chiefs

Notice a theme here? The Titans defense was nowhere near a match for the Chiefs on Friday night. Kelce, one of the most-hyped fantasy players heading into the 2015 season, caught two passes for 42 yards, including an eight-yard score from Smith in the second quarter. With an upside as a top-three tight end this year, it's nice to see Kelce already connecting big time with his quarterback.
