The Baltimore Ravens won't be getting 2015 first-round pick Breshad Perriman back any time soon. The wide receiver reportedly suffered a partially torn ACL during the team's OTAs this week and will be shelved for at least the first couple months of the upcoming NFL season.
Perriman will meet with Dr. James Andrews on Monday to help decide whether he's going to need season-ending surgery.
The 22-year-old former Central Florida star missed his entire rookie campaign after the Ravens took him 26th overall last spring. This latest setback could conceivably call into question Perriman's ability to make an impact in the NFL moving forward. After all, there's a decent chance his first two seasons will be lost to knee injuries.
With Perriman on the shelf, Joe Flacco will continue to rely on veteran Steve Smith to get the job done. Unfortunately for Baltimore, Smith missed the final nine games last season with a torn Achilles. Given his age (37), there's no telling whether he will ever be back at 100 percent.
All this seems to be an indication that Kamar Aiken will continue to play a huge role in the team's passing game. He caught 75 passes for 944 yards en route to finishing as the 31st-best fantasy receiver on the season. We can also expect second-year tight end Maxx Williams and free agent signing Ben Watson, also a tight end, to play largre roles in Baltimore's offense with Perriman out.
