Fantasy Slant: Cardinals Re-sign TE Jermaine Gresham

On the day that impending free agents can openly negotiate with teams, the Arizona Cardinals made sure to lock up one of their own.

The team announced on Tuesday that it has re-signed tight end Jermaine Gresham to a four-year contract, meaning that he will be Arizona's starting tight end for the foreseeable future.

Gresham, 28, put up 37 receptions for 391 yards and two touchdowns in 16 games (14 starts) for the team last season. It was only the second full 16-game slate for Gresham in his seven-year NFL career.

While Gresham's numbers weren't extraordinary last season, he did catch 61 percent of the balls thrown in his direction. The veteran's fantasy outlook promises to be sunnier in 2017 with fellow tight end Darren Fells likely to leave the Cardinals in free agency.

Even then, Gresham is nothing more than a bottom-end TE2 option in larger leagues. He remains irrelevant in standard 12-team contests.
