Fresh off a 2015 campaign that saw Chris Ivory put up his first 1,000-yard season in six attempts, Ivory was able to turn that into a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars that will pay him $6.5 million annually.
With Ivory slated to share the same backfield with second-year running back T.J. Yeldon, who also put up 1,000-plus total yards last season, there has to be some concern over the potential of handcuffing taking place.
Last year saw Ivory put up an average of 17.3 touches per game en route to a No. 8 fantasy ranking among running backs. Meanwhile, Yeldon himself finished as a top-end FLEX option while touching the ball an average of 18.2 times per game.
It's highly unrealistic to believe either running back will come close to seeing as many touches this upcoming season. That's magnified by the fact that Jacksonville's passing game is among the best in the entire NFL, an indication that despite more balance there simply won't be enough touches to go around here.
All said, Jaguars running backs averaged 22.6 touches per game last year. Even if that numbers increases to the high 20's, it still won't be enough for either of these running backs to be considered solid fantasy options.
Based on Ivory's $6.5 million annual salary, it's safe to assume he will see a majority of the rush attempts. While this makes Yeldon irrelevant from a fantasy perspective, it does mean that Ivory himself will likely be a decent RB2 option in standard 12-team leagues. That's a decline from his top-10 ranking this past season.
