The Dallas Cowboys have reportedly informed four-time Pro Bowl quarterback Tony Romo that he will be released when free agency starts on Thursday.
This is not a surprising move considering Romo himself is set to count $25 million against the cap in 2017 and Dallas has a young phenom in the form of Dak Prescott under center.
Despite playing in only five combined games over the past two seasons due to injury, Romo will be a wanted man on the free-agent market.
The Denver Broncos and Houston Texans are the teams primarily linked to the 36-year-old quarterback. Though, both the Washington Redskins and San Francisco 49ers have also been bandied about as possibilities.
From a fantasy perspective, Romo would be a QB1 option if he were to land with Denver or Houston. Of course, that's dependent on him actually remaining healthy and seeing the field on a consistent basis. Over the course of his past four full seasons, Romo has finished no worst than 11th among quarterbacks in fantasy points.
