The Philadelphia Eagles upgraded their wide receiver group big time on the first day of free agency, signing former Pro Bowler Alshon Jeffery to a one-year, $14 million contract. Jeffery, who turned down a larger contract from the Minnesota Vikings, will now immediately become Carson Wentz's favorite target in Philly.
Jeffery, 27, is coming off a two-year span that saw him produce at a much lower level than what we saw in the past. This past season alone, Jeffery recorded 52 reeceptions for 821 yards and two touchdowns. He was also suspended four games for violating the NFL's PED policy. In the two years prior to that, Jeffery gained over 2,500 total yards and 17 touchdowns.
More than anything, Jeffery was a product of poor quarterback play with the Chicago Bears. Based on what we've seen from Wentz in Philadelphia, that's unlikely going to be the case. Look for him to act as a WR1 option in 12-team fantasy leagues this upcoming season. It surely doesn't hurt that he will again be in a contract year.
