Fantasy Slant: Frank Gore to Sign with the Eagles

Long time San Francisco 49ers running back Frank Gore is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles when free agency gets going on Tuesday.

It's an interesting move for a veteran who will be 32 when the 2015 season comes calling and has a lot of tread on those tires.

Despite his advanced age, Gore still put up over 1,100 yards and four touchdowns this past season in San Francisco. Now moving on to Philadelphia where he will be replacing LeSean McCoy, Gore's fantasy value will come into question once again.

The biggest question mark is whether Gore will see enough touches in Chip Kelly's fast-paced offense to be a bottom end RB1 in 2015. The team still has Darren Sproles as a COP back and is likely to select a running back in the 2015 NFL draft.

With McCoy, Philadelphia passed the ball 58 percent of the time last season. It did average 4.2 yards per rush and scored 16 touchdowns on the ground.

As it relates to the Eagles offensive line, Pro Football Focus graded that unit out first overall in run blocking. For comparison's sake, San Francisco ranked third. This means that Gore is going to a slightly better situation than he was in last year.

Another thing to look at here is who is under center in Philadelphia. The team re-signed Mark Sanchez to a two-year deal during the offseason. It also has Nick Foles on the roster and is rumored to be interested in trading up for Marcus Mariota. Heck, there's talk that the Eagles are discussing a potential deal for Colin Kaepernick

Either way you spin it, Gore's previous succeess and the situation he will find himself in with the Eagles indicates that the aging running back should be a mid-tier RB2 option in 2015.

Simply put, don't let his age scare you off in re-draft leagues.
