Fantasy Slant: Karlos Williams Reported to Camp 20-25 Pounds Overweight

Following a tremendous rookie season that saw him score nine total touchdowns while averaging 5.6 yards per attempt, most figured that Karlos Williams would act as a handcuff to starting Buffalo Bills running back LeSean McCoy

That may no longer be the case.

According to The Buffalo News, Williams showed up to this summer's minicamp 20-25 pounds overweight.

"He (Williams) showed up overweight in minicamp," the report read, "maybe by 20-25 pounds. Even (Rex) Ryan said the Bills would need to set a realistic weight-loss goal for Williams by Day One of training camp, which probably means he’ll be starting practice conditioning on the sideline."

Not only is there no longer a reasonable concern that Williams will take away from McCoy's touches, he might have to do battle with rookie mid-round pick Jonathan Williams for the primary backup job.

Despite having to go through a plethora of running backs a season ago, Buffalo ranked among the top teams in the NFL in rushing offenses. It's just how the carries were delved out that made these players somewhat irrelevant.

2015 Bills' Rushing Leaders
Player Rush Yards AVG TD
LeSean McCoy 203 895 4.4 5
Tyrod Taylor 104 568 5.5 4
Karlos Williams 93 517 5.6 9
Mike Gillislee 47 267 5.7 3

Even then, McCoy still found a way to finish as a top-end RB2 option in standard 12-team leagues.

Assuming Shady is able to stay healthy, there's a reasonable expectation that he should be able to finish among the top-10 players at his position. And until we see a leaner Williams, there's no reason to draft him in the late rounds as a handcuff to McCoy.
