The New York Jets replaced the recently departed Chris Ivory with future Hall of Fame running back Matt Forte in free agency on Wednesday. 

It's a move that flew largely under the radar with all the other signings that took place during the first official day of free agency. It's also going to have wide-ranging ramifications, especially from a fantasy perspective. 

Forte, 30, is coming off a down season with the Chicago Bears that saw him put up a career-low 889 rushing yards and just 4.1 yards per attempt. He did add 44 receptions for 389 yards and seven total scores. That brought his total yardage number to over 1,200 for the eighth consecutive season. It also enabled him to finish in the top 10 among fantasy running backs in PPR leagues. 

Now joining a Jets team that boasted an elite level run-blocking offensive line, Forte promises to continue excelling from a fantasy standpoint. After all, Jets running backs combined to put up nearly 1,900 rushing yards on the season. 

More than this, Forte figures to be the unquestioned top dog in New York after sharing time with Jeremy Langford last season with the Bears.

It's also important to note that he's going to a team that relies more on the running game than he's played for in the past. Forte himself averaged about 17 rush attempts per game during his eight years in Chicago. 

For comparison's sake, the Jets top two running backs in their previous committee approach, Chris Ivory and Bilal Powell, averaged over 20 attempts per game. 

Equally as important, Jets running backs put up 97 receptions on 136 targets in 2015. Meanwhile, Bears running backs tallied just 70 receptions on 106 targets. 

Considering Forte has been among the best receiving running backs in the NFL over the course of his career, this could be a huge boon for him from a fantasy perspective.
