After Sunday's huge performance from rookie running back Matt Jones, it appears that the Washington Redskins are on the verge of going to a running back by committee approach.
Jones, a third-round pick in this year's draft from Florida, tallied 123 yards and two scores on 19 attempts against a darn good St. Louis Rams defense on Sunday. He out-carried starter Alfred Morris who put up 18 attempts in the impressive Redskins win. For his part, Morris was able to put up just 59 yards on his 18 attempts.
No one is prepared to indicate that Jones will take over the primary ball carrier duties from Morris this year but it's highly likely that the former will see a nice amount of touches moving forward.
Seen as a battering ram out of the backfield, Jones has a Marshawn Lynch look to him. He's difficult to bring down at the line of scrimmage and has a surprising amount of athleticism for someone his size. It wouldn't be a surprise to see Jones put up 12-plus touches on a consistent basis this year, which could make him a solid fantasy add. Enter into the equation the fact that he could act as the goal line back in D.C., and the writing is on the wall for Jones to make a big impact moving forward.
