Fantasy Slant: Packers Waive RB Christine Michael

If there was any question as to whether Ty Montgomery would be the Green Bay Packers' starting running back this upcoming season, that can pretty much be thrown out the window.

The team announced on Monday that it has waived veteran running back Christine Michael.

This comes after a 2017 NFL Draft in which the Packers picked up three running backs, including BYU standout Jamaal Williams in the fourth round.

It was noted earlier in the offseason that Montgomery, a former wide receiver, was making a full-time transition to running back. This came after a 2016 campaign in which he was forced into duty in the backfield after multiple injuries to other running backs.

Montgomery would end the 2016 season having put up 805 total yards and three touchdowns, including an average of 5.9 yards per rush.

With Eddie Lacy now in Seattle, Montgomery has to be considered an under-the-radar RB1 option. The release of Michael magnifies this further.
