The Oakland Raiders have made quarterback Derek Carr the highest-paid player in the NFL. The team signed him to a five-year, $125 million extension on Thursday, a deal that far surpasses any other quarterback in the league.
Carr was set to become a free agent following the 2017 season and conversations had taken place between the two sides since this past season ended.
Carr, 26, has put up 11,200 yards with 81 touchdowns and 31 interceptions in his first three NFL season. This past year saw the Fresno State product pass for nearly 4,000 yards with 28 touchdowns and six interceptions.
With an elite-level receiving group that includes Amari Cooper and Michael Crabtree, Carr's long-term fantasy relevance is obviously there in Oakland. Last season saw the still young quarterback finish as the ninth-best player at his position.
In fact, Carr has seen an uptick in fantasy production each season. He finished 20th and 15th among quarterback in 2014 and 2015, respectively, before last season's top-10 finish.
Remaining in Oakland (or Las Vegas) over the long term pretty much guarantees that Carr's floor is a bottom end QB1 moving forward.
