Fantasy Slant: Redskins Re-sign TE Vernon Davis

The Washington Redskins made sure to look up one of their most-talented pass catchers before the start of free agency. Tight end Vernon Davis announced late Tuesday night that he has agreed to a three-year contract to return to the Redskins.

Davis, 33, did extremely well in filling in for the injury Jordan Reed throughout the 2016 season, putting up a 75 percent catch rate to go with 44 receptions and 583 yards in his first season with the team.

It was a heck of a return home for Davis, who fell out of favor in both San Francisco and Denver before catching on with the Redskins.

We really can't look at anything fantasy related when it comes to the Redskins until their quarterback situation is resolved. A lot of talk has surrounded the idea that Washington will end up trading Kirk Cousins to the San Francisco 49ers here soon. If that's the case, anyone worth a hill of beans from a fantasy perspective in Washington will take a hit.

With that said, a return to D.C. for Cousins would likely make Davis a mid-tier TE2 option in 12-team leagues with Reed (assuming he's healthy) acting as a top-10 fantasy option at that position.
