Fantasy Slant: Titans WR Corey Davis Out for Week 7, Nearing Return

For the fifth straight week, the Tennessee Titans will take the field without their top wide receiver and fifth-overall pick in this year's draft. Davis, who in Week 2 re-aggravated the hamstring injury he first sustained at the start of training camp, will miss another week of action, ESPN's NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe first shared the news of Davis' status this morning.

Part of the reasoning for Davis' Week 7 absence is that it buys him an additional two weeks off. Tennessee will face the Cleveland Browns this Sunday, then it has a bye in Week 8 and that allows Davis additional time to rest and allow the soft tissue to heal for an additional week.

The greater news from Wolfe's report is that Davis is indeed nearing a return and has been stretching during the week. With Davis' return to the field nearing, now is the time for fantasy owners to strike on the situation.

Davis is owned in only 25 percent of ESPN fantasy leagues, making him someone to immediately target on the waiver wire. Even if you don't have IR spots, Davis is worth a stash in ESPN leagues. Davis is significantly higher owned in NFL.com leagues with a 62.1 percent ownership mark as of Week 7. If he is still on rosters in your NFL.com league, throw out a bench player for bench player offer and see if you can land him.

He is a gifted athlete who could quickly become Marcus Mariota's go-to target at a time when Mariota continues to show improvements as a passer and Tennessee's offense starts to turn things around. Given the number of injuries at the wide receiver position this year, Davis is a great high-upside target in the free agent pool.
