Fantasy Slant: Vikings Decline Option on Adrian Peterson, Set to Become Free Agent

As expected, the Minnesota Vikings declined the 2017 option on running back Adrian Peterson, making him a free agent when the new league year starts next month.

Coming off a 2016 campaign that saw him play in just three games due to a torn meniscus, Peterson was set to make $18 million this upcoming season. That would have been $6 million more than the second highest-paid running back in the NFL.

Despite playing in a total of 20 games since the end of the 2013 campaign and turning 32 prior to the start of next season, there will likely be a decent market for Peterson's services. It just remains to be seen if he will be a primary ball carrier form here on out.

It will definitely be something to watch as you set your big boards for the 2017 re-draft fantasy season. No matter where he lands, just make sure you know you're not drafting a player from 2015 that led the NFL in rush attempts, rushing yards and rushing touchdowns.

AP is past his prime and has a ton of tread on his tires. Add in his recent injury issues, and reliance on him in the fake football world would be foolish.
