Everson Griffen has signed a five year deal with the with the Vikings worth a guaranteed $20 million. This is big news for the Vikings since they will be losing one of their stars in Jared Allen who was a major part of that defensive line. But what makes this big news is this will pretty much be a bar for the other pass rushers like Michael Johnson and Lamarr Houston.
Griffen is a good player but he isn’t rated as high as these three players who are at the top of everyones free agent list. Johnson was one of the Bengals most productive pass rushers in 2012 racking up 11.5 sacks.
Houston is a big pass rusher and many were shocked to find out that he wasn’t franchise tagged by the Oakland Raiders. At 26 Years Old he could become a cornerstone piece to a team's defensive lines.
Bennett one of the best players on Seattle’s dominant defense already has ties to the Chicago Bears as it looked like he’d reunite with his brother Martellus Bennett the Bears tight end. The Bears are in desperate need of another pass rusher as their top guy last year Julius Peppers only recorded seven and a half sacks. Unfortunately for Chicago, Bennet decided to take less money to stay with Seattle.
All in all you can expect big pay days for these three, they will all probably ask for more than Griffen because they are so highly rated. We’ll probably see Bennett sign first so we’ll be able to see how much the Griffen deal affects his contract.
