The Jacksonville Jaguars are down once again in Mobile, coaching one of the two Senior Bowl teams with practices running throughout the week before Sunday's game.
For Jaguars coach Gus Bradley, it's another chance for he and his staff to get an up clsoe look at some of the upcoming players in the 2016 NFL Draft, seeing how they take to coaching, what they look like in practice and jsut getting a chance to get to know them.
Bradley spoke to reporters after Friday's practice and spoke about the challenges of coaching the Senior Bowl, players Bradley coached in the Senior Bowl who are now with the Jaguars and more.
Q: Is there anything challenging while coaching this game multiple times?
A: All these situations you take OTA’s and training camp as a team to try and get accomplished. You want to make sure the players really have a chance to showcase their abilities. We all understand that and every drill we set up, every period in practice is a chance for these guys to show how competitive they are. Your hope is that it comes together for Saturday and a make a great game.
Q: You have a couple guys on the Jaguars that you coached here in the past. Is it fair to say some of those guys are a result of your staff being here?
I think our feelings were stronger with guys like Telvin Smith, and Aaron Colvin. It definitely helps.
Q: Is there a difference form this year to last with having four quarterbacks?
A: It’s a challenge because you want to give them all equal time so just give them each a quarter, but it doesn’t work out that way. Someone might get a two-minute situation. Sometimes quarters play out differently and you’re trying to get them all equal reps in situations to allow them to compete. We’ll start out that way, but we’ll monitor it and make it work.
Q: If there’s one takeaway you want these players to leave with, what would it be?
The NFL is a unique profession. These guys are professionals now. It’s not just about on the field, but how they handle themselves and the decisions they make. It’s a billion dollar business and people draw conclusions based on your actions and the decisions you make. Your dreams can turn into nightmares if you’re not careful.
Q: What has Dan Vitale showed you this week?
A: I thought he did a great job this week in pass protection and his aggressiveness in that aspect. We gave him the ball once just to keep his enthusiasm for the game, but he’s been great. This is a true fullback that helps out in the running game and I know the tailbacks appreciate it.
