The Seattle Seahawks have the best roster from top to bottom and there should be minimal debate about it. However, having the most talented roster in the NFL doesn’t mean they are without some holes. With free agency basically over and the Seahawks having stayed fairly quiet during it (besides the big Jimmy Graham trade right before free agency started), that leaves the draft as their main place to fill said holes. The draft is difficult enough as it is, but not having your first round pick makes it that even more difficult.
The first place the Seahawks need to improve in the draft is on the offensive line. Without All-Pro center Max Unger, they’re going to be even worse than they were last season. Having a quarterback like Russell Wilson and a running back like Marshawn Lynch can cover up some deficiencies on the offensive line, but the holes will catch up to them. I don’t expect the Seahawks to target one specific position along the offensive line, I expect them to take the best offensive lineman available with a few of their picks.
They next place they can certainly improve is at wide receiver. This need isn’t as urgent as it was a few months ago with the addition of Graham, who is closer to a wide receiver than a tight end anyway. The Seahawks will have ample opportunity during the draft to take a quality wide receiver since this draft class is so deep at that position. Look for a wide receiver like Tre McBride out of William and Mary somewhere in the middle rounds and Dezmin Lewis out of Central Arkansas even a little later than that. Both of these receivers are guys they can get later in the draft if they decide to take offensive linemen early. Both players are also great fits with the Seahawks.
Finally, look for the Seahawks to get some more depth in their secondary. Their starters are some of the best at their positions, but they’ve lost some depth via free agency recently. Although they signed both Will Blackmon and Cary Williams, neither are long-term options. They also lost their backup at strong safety, Jeron Johnson. With their limited amount of draft picks, they might opt to take someone like Eric Rowe out of Utah. Utah played cornerback in college but has the skill set to play safety. He’s a versatile player that the Seahawks might have their eye on.
