Injuries Play a Major Role During NFL's Week 2 Early Game Slate

New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo had to exit his team's game against the Miami Dolphins with a shoulder injury on Sunday. It came late in the second quarter and forced the third-year quarterback out for the remainder of the game. It also came after Garoppolo had thrown three first-half touchdowns against the Miami Dolphins.

With Tom Brady suspended and Garoppolo sidelined, rookie Jacoby Brissett had to take to the field. He responded by completing 6-of-9 passes for 92 yards without a touchdown or an interception.

The good news here is that Garoppolo did not suffer any broken bones in his throwing shoulder. Instead, the concern has to be a spraing to his AC joint. If that's the case, it's hard to imagine him being ready for Thursday's game against the Houston Texans.

Arian Foster and Jonathan Stewart both entered Sunday's action questionable. Both exited their team's games with different injuries and did not return. Foster, who was questionable with a hamstring injury, went down in the first half with a separate groin injury. It's not yet known how serious the injury is, but the fact that he wasn't able to return isn't good.

Foster was replaced in the lineup by Jay Ajayi, who put up 55 yards on nine touches. Rookie Kenyan Drake added 18 yards and a score on four touches. Neither can be considered a fantasy relevant option, even if Foster were to miss action. On other hand, Ryan Tannehill was forced to toss the ball around the park with his team trailing early on Sunday.

He responded by completing 32-of-45 passes for 389 yards. The beneficiaries here were DeVante Parker and Jarvis Landry, who combined to catch 18 passes for 243 yards.

On the other hand, Stewart left Sunday's game against the San Francisco 49ers with a hamstring injury. This comes after he was limited during practice all week with an ankle issue. Stewart was replaced in the lineup by Fozzy Whittaker, who put up 131 yards on 19 touches. This is most definitely something to keep an eye on throughout the practice week.
