Is Joe Flacco Getting Paid Too Much?

Is Joe Flacco Getting Paid Too Much?

Pigskin talk is finally settling down, but that doesn’t mean the talk of football has.  Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco recently signed a six-year $120.6 million contract as a three year pact.  This will be more than enough to help with his trip to Disney World.

A lot of people are saying he is getting paid too much.  However, that seems to not be true.

There is always that situation where they say you can be a good team, but you may not be a “good playoff team.”  Take a look at the Ravens’ playoff schedule.  They had to face the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos and New England Patriots; then the San Francisco 49ers in the Super Bowl.  And they beat every team, every time.  That was not an easy schedule by any means.

Now let’s look at Flacco’s numbers.  For the 2012 season, he racked up 3817 yards, 22 touchdowns and only ten interceptions.  Those numbers may not stack up to Peyton Manning (4659 yards) or Tom Brady (4827 yards) who sit comfortably in the 4,000 yard range, but you have to take into consideration that the Ravens have proven themselves time and time again.  You have a leadership role in recently retired Ray Lewis, the catching abilities of Torrey Smith (855 yards and eight touchdowns).  Bernard Pierce will be a force to be reckoned with not to mention a fantasy obsession next year.  You can’t leave out Paul Kruger who will sack any quarterback (and I mean any quarterback) in his path, so whoever lands him, which rumors have it, it's the Browns, is going to be a very lucky team.  Flacco is the secret ingredient that binds the team together, and with him at the age of 28, he still has plenty of years left to make the city of Baltimore proud.

Flacco deserves to be up there with the other elite quarterbacks.  If Baltimore wants to spend as much money on him as they are, so be it.  When a quarterback wins the most important game of the year for you, would you want to get rid of him?  Didn’t think so.
