Jacksonville Jaguars Youngsters Provide Upside in Fantasy Football

One thing became abundantly clear when the Jacksonville Jaguars took on the New York Jets in preseason action last night.

The Jaguars, under the leadership of new head coach Gus Bradley and offensive coordinator Jed Fisch, look a whole lot different than what we have seen in the past.

There is a ton of young speed on this offense, which has decided to go with an up-tempo approach. In that, Jacksonville possesses some high-upside fantasy options for dynasty league owners to take a look at.

Rookie wide receiver Ace Sanders handled the ball at his natural position and even took some reps in the offensive backfield last night. The South Carolina product might have been overshadowed by the likes of Marcus Lattimore and Jadeveon Clowney in college, but he was an impact player for the Gamecocks.

Sanders, who recorded 45 receptions for nine touchdowns last season, did not drop a single pass all year long. The 5’7” receiver might not be able to provide a consistent production as a possession receiver, but he’s as electric as you can get on the outside, in the slot and even in the offensive backfield.

It could be said that Sanders is a threat to take it the distance each time he touches the ball. Maybe a Percy Harvin-lite type of player at this point. He’ll team up with Justin Blackmon and Cecil Shorts to form a vastly improved wide receiver group in Jacksonville. At the very least, Sanders could see Dexter McCluster-type production, if utilized correctly.

The real wildcard here is former Michigan quarterback turned running back Denard Robinson, who Jacksonville picked up in the fourth round of April’s draft.

Robinson’s raw athleticism will allow him to make an immediate impact behind Maurice Jones-Drew at running back. However, what we have seen in his first couple preseason games has been surprising. Robinson is showing tremendous field vision and cut-back ability from running back; two things that usually come with experience. If he is already ahead of the curb when it comes to this, Robinson’s impact could be felt as a rookie.

This takes on a whole other meaning if Jones-Drew finds himself getting injured at some point in the season.

In terms of dynasty value, Robinson brings a whole lot to the table. He’s the likely successor to MJD, who has had contract disputes with Jacksonville in the past and is less than two years away from entering that dreaded 30-year-old plateau.
