Former Australian rugby player Jarryd Hayne was not among the 22 players the San Francisco 49ers had to eliminate from their active roster on Saturday. This means that the running back will make the 53-man roster and should be in uniform in the team's season opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
It's quite the accomplishment for someone that just started playing American football less than six months ago. And it's well deserved. Simply put, Hayne proved that he belonged in the NFL with a stunning preseason performance that saw him put up a ridiculous 406 all-purpose yards.
While this is big news, it won't impact your fantasy football strategy. Hayne will likely open the season as the team's No. 3 running back behind Carlos Hyde and Reggie Bush. Though, it's something to keep an eye on moving forward. There's a chance Hayne will act as San Francisco's short-yardage back.
