The hits keep coming for the Dallas Cowboys. On the same day that the team placed Tony Romo on short-term injured reserve, one of his favorite targets in the passing game may in fact miss some time to injury.
According to ESPN's Ed Werder, future Hall of Fame tight end Jason Witten is not a lock to play Week 3 against the Atlanta Falcons after suffering two sprained ankles and a sprained knee:
You read that right. Witten is suffering through three injuries to his lower body. In addition to Romo being out until at least Week 11, Dez Bryant is sidelined for the next two months. If Witten has to miss any action, it's going to be a tremendous blow to the Cowboys over the short term. In two games this season, Witten leads the Cowboys with 15 receptions and two touchdown catches.
If Witten is indeed sidelined against Atlanta, Gavin Escobar becomes a solid play in weekly contests. He will end up being one of Brandon Weeden's favorite targets in the passing game.
