Johnny Manziel Takes First-Team Reps in Practice, Josh McCown Still Expected to Start

The Cleveland Browns have done a darn good job of avoiding a quarterback controversy thus far this year. Outside of Josh McCown missing the team's Week 2 game due to a concussion, the Browns have remained consistent that he is their starting quarterback.

Not due to a lack of performance, but rather another injury, questions are again popping up regarding the Browns' quarterback situation. McCown underwent an MRI for his ailing throwing shoulder on Monday and didn't practice Wednesday.

This led to some questions regarding the team's quarterback situation, especially considering Manziel was given first-team reps.

Browns head coach Mike Pettine did everything in his power to quiet said rumors on Wednesday:

"If our starting quarterback is physically able to play will we play him,'' Pettine said.

It shouldn't be that much of a surprise that Pettine is doubling down on McCown here. While the veteran did struggle last week against the St. Louis Rams, he had been playing much better ball as of late. As it relates to Manziel, the league is still investigating a domestic issue with his girlfrield that took place earlier this month.

Though, if McCown is unable to practice moving forward this week, it could be an indication that the Browns will have to throw the second-year quarterback out there on Sunday.
