Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel will be given a shot to prove his worth against the undefeated Cincinnati Bengals on Thursday night.
Manziel will get the start in favor of Josh McCown, who was attempting to play through ribs injury he suffered against the Arizona Cardinals last week. This comes after McCown had suffered both a concussion and a shoulder injury earlier in the year.
Despite the toughness that the veteran has displayed, it makes a ton of sense for Cleveland to go with Manziel here. More than the team playing on a short week, it is currently 2-6 on the season. McCown doesn't fit in the team's long-term plans, and it needs to see what it has in Manziel moving forward this season.
Though, it remains to be seen whether this decision was purely based on McCown being injured — an indication that he would retain the starting job when he's healthy enough to go.
