Kam Chancellor Ends Holdout, Returns to the Seahawks

After his Seattle Seahawks started the season 0-2, Pro Bowl safety Kam Chancellor was feeling the pressure to end his six-plus week holdout due to a contract stalemate.

Deciding to put aside financial differences with the organization, Chancellor ended his holdout on Wednesday, as first reported by ESPN's Stephen A. Smith:

"Ima go help my teammates that are understanding of my position and the ones who aren't. God forgives all, why can't i? Time to help us get back to the big dance," Chancellor said in a text to Smith. "I can address business after the season. Me and Marshawn started a mission 2 years ago. I can't let my Dawg down....Real talk."

Seattle later confirmed that Chancellor is indeed back with the team.

Over the short term, this is huge for the last-place Seahawks. They simply haven't been the same defense with Chancellor out of the mix. Over the first two games, the Legion of Boom ranks 21st in the NFL in passing defense, allowing an average of 251 yards per game. It has also allowed a ridiculous 112.0 quarterback rating.

Over the long term, not a whole bunch changes here. Chancellor is putting off the issue until the offseason, at which point he's going to want a new deal — a new deal Seattle doesn't appear willing to offer him. It's also interesting to note Chancellor seems to feel he needs to forgive certain teammates who didn't support his holdout decision. There's something here in terms of a locker room split.

As it is, Chancellor will likely return to the field Sunday against the Chicago Bears. That's huge for a fledgling Seahawks team.
