Kansas City Chiefs Sign TE Travis Kelce to five-year extension

The Kansas City Chiefs started their offseason on the right path, agreeing to terms on a five-year contract extension with Travis Kelce. The five-year extension will make sure that the Chiefs hold on to one of the most athletic, exciting tight ends in the NFL.

Kelce signed the extension while in Hawaii as he enjoys his first trip to the Pro Bowl. The 26-yera-old tight end is coming off the best season of his career, hauling in 72 receptions for 875 yards and five touchdowns. Kelce is a phenomenal athlete who was used more this season in Kansas CIty's offense but still may not be used to his full potential in Kansas City's style of offense.

The five-year extension will make him the second-highest paid tight end in the NFL, making an AAV of $9.2 million per season with over $20 million of the contract guaranteed. Kansas City is showing more of a commitment to improving the passing game and providing a cast for Alex Smith after signing Jeremy Maclin last offseason.
