Despite already having Daniel Thomas and Reggie Bush on the roster, the Miami Dolphins were looking to the post-Bush near future when they selected former Miami(FL) running back, Lamar Miller, in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL draft. After a limited rookie season, Miller is set to be the No. 1 back in 2013. Let’s take a look at how this will affect his fantasy value both this year and in the future.
2012 Stats | Att | Yds | TD's | Rec | Yds | TD's | RB Rank | PPG |
| 51 | 250 | 1 | 6 | 45 | 0 | 70th | 2.73 |
2013 Outlook
Stuck at No. 3 on the depth chart behind Bush and Thomas for much of the season, it was hard for Miller to really showcase his skill set properly. But, in limited field time over the course of 13 games, Miller put up impressive numbers. He rushed for 250 yards and one touchdown and managed 4.9 yards per carry. Miller also racked up 45 receiving yards on eight carries and didn’t fumble the ball once.
Now that Miller is the No. 1 guy, look for him to see the types of carries and targets that Bush saw in 2012, which would make Miller a high-end RB2 and possibly even a fringe RB1 in standard and redraft leagues this year.
Dynasty Outlook
Miller is only 22 and appears to be a core part of the plan moving forward. As long as he can stay healthy and produce, he’ll be a high-end RB2 option in any scoring format for the foreseeable future. According to My Fantasy League’s dynasty ADP data, Miller is currently being drafted near the end of the fourth round, which suggests people are undervaluing him currently. If you can scoop him up at any point from the end of the third round on, you’re getting tremendous value and solidifying your RB2 spot.
2013 Stat Projection: 1,200 rushing yards, 45 receptions 430 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns.
