Some wondered whether Lamar Miller's performance in Week 6 against the Tennessee Titans was a fluke. After all, it was Dan Campbell's first game as the team's head coach and he was obvious about wanting to get the run game involved in the week leading up to his debut.
That game saw Miller gain 113 yards and a touchdown on 19 attempts. It was good enough for the seventh-best fantasy performance among running backs on the week.
Heading into Sunday's game against a struggling Houston Texans defense, Miller was the early focal point for a suddenly dominating Dolphins squad. He gained over 200 total yards and a touchdown in the first half alone. With the game out of hand at the half (Miami up 41-0), Miller didn't see a ton of action. He still found a way to tally 236 yards and two scores en route 35.60 fantasy points — the top fantasy points among running backs on the week.
More so than his production when in the game, the Dolphins are finally finding the right way to use Miller. This means he's getting more than the 13.5 attempts he averaged last year and the 9.3 attempts he averaged in the first four games under Joe Philbin.
In about six quarters of action under Campbell, Miller has put up 33 attempts. It might not seem like a big dea, but when the Dolphins actually find themselves tested in a game, Miller's usage will most definitely go up.
Considering he's averaging nine yards per attempt in the past two games and actually held a 5.1 yards per attempt clip last season, there's no reason to believe Miller won't put up huge fantasy numbers should he get consistent touches. That should start Thursday night against the New England Patriots
