If you want to throw together a New England Patriots stack with Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski, you'll have to dig deep into the running back pool and hope to find gold. Fortunately that's already been done with Washington running back Chris Thompson.

While much attention has been given to Alfred Morris and Matt Jones, it was Thompson that led the group in snaps last week (48) per Football Outsiders. In that game against the Philadelphia Eagles, Thompson finished with 77 total yards, showing off his ability to make big plays on just eight total touches.

Thompson has established himself as Washington's third-down back and that will be a significant role against the Atlanta Falcons. Atlanta has allowed a whopping 365 receiving yards to running backs through four games, the highest mark in the NFL. 

In a game where the Falcons are expected to win handedly, Washington will be forced to rely on the passing game early and often, trying to play catch up. That should already paly right into Thompson's role and result in a plethora of targets, but it becomes even more attractive with tight end Jordan Reed out on Sunday.
