Let's Go Ahead and Buy Stock in Melvin Gordon Right Now

The Melvin Gordon hype train is alive and well here at eDraft. We're not the first members of the train, and we surely won't be the last passengers onboard. You're more than welcome to join us.

After failing to put up a touchdown in 217 touches as a rookie last season, the San Dieo Chargers' running back leads the NFL with three touchdown runs through two games. He's also put up 177 total yards on 41 touches, numbers that are good enough for him to rank sixth among running backs in fantasy points heading into Monday Night Football.

This is a small sample size. That much is known.

However, Gordon's fantasy relevance was taken to a whole new level with news that Danny Woodhead tore his ACL Sunday against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

That eliminates any opposition Gordon might have in terms of red-zone and short-yardage touches. Remember, Woodhead doubled up Gordon when it came to red-zone touches a season ago. With him sidelined, that's simply not going to be the case in 2016.

Also important to note, Gordon fumbled the ball six times in 217 touches as a rookie last season. Through two games he has yet to cough it up. That's huge news for fantasy owners the fake football world over.

Looking at it from the perspective of touches and opportunities, Gordon's upside is nearly unmatched among running backs that were not considered RB1 options heading into the season.

He's not facing any competition for touches, meaning it wouldn't be a surprise to see him rack up 20-plus on a per game basis. He also exists within the confines of a Chargers offense that's without top receiver Keenan Allen

If you have an opportunity to pick up Gordon in a trade, it's our recommendation you do just that. Don't overpay, but definitely avoid ignoring simply based off what we saw in 2015.
