Marcus Mariota Puts up Uneven Preseason Debut

As expected, Tennessee Titans quarterback Marcus Mariota had his ups and downs in his NFL debut Friday night against the Houston Texans.

The reigning Heisman winner did tally a 10-play, 80-yard touchdown-scoring drive to cap his night, but he also put up an interception and a fumble prior to that. Overall, Mariota completed 7-of-8 passes for 94 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Here is one of the "lowlights" from Mariota's debut:

That simply can't happen at the NFL level. Mariota needs to recognize coverage assignments prior to the snap. He also has to account for the players on the opposing team's front seven. It's definitely a learning process.

On the other hand, Mariota looked stellar in his final series.

All in all, not a bad effort. It was nice to see the No. 2 overall pick from this year's draft rebound after what was a disastrous performance.
