In his first four seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Martellus Bennett never finished ranked higher than 35th among tight ends in fantasy points, due mostly to the fact that he was playing second fiddle to Jason Witten. Bennett parted ways with Dallas at the end of the 2011 season, and signed as a free agent with the New York Giants, where he stepped up big as the No. 1 tight end and finished the season as the 13th best in fantasy points. Now that Bennett is onto his third team in as many years, the Chicago Bears, what can fantasy owners expect in 2013 and moving forward? Let’s find out.
2012 Stats | Rec | Yds | TD's | TE Ranking | PPG |
| 55 | 626 | 5 | 13th | 5.8 |
2013 Outlook
The Bears come into the 2013 season with a new coaching staff and a new offensive scheme thanks to offensive guru head coach Marc Trestman. Bennett will benefit from playing in Trestman’s scheme, which frequently utilizes the tight end, something quarterback Jay Cutler has been desperate for since joining the Bears. Look for Bennett to play a role similar to the one he played with Giants in 2012. He’ll finish the season as the Bears’ No. 2 pass catcher and as a TE1 in standard and PPR formats.
Dynasty Outlook
Despite five years of NFL service in which he’s only missed four games, Bennett is just 26 years old and extremely durable. As long as he’s the No. 1 tight end and a significant part of the passing game, he’ll be a fringe TE1, high-end TE2 option for years to come.
2013 Projection: 60 receptions, 720 receiving yards and seven touchdowns.
