Some players make you want to talk about their fantasy teams, brag about them even. You know who I’m talking about, the guy that consistently guys you 15 or the guy you picked up in free agency that ends up carrying the team. Well these aren’t those guys, these guys are the exact opposite. They are responsible for you not going to work, skipping class, or any damage done to your phone and or laptop. They are the guys that were drafted high and were expected to produce good numbers, but that isn’t what has happened so far. These are the disappointing fantasy players through Week 8 for each position.
These are the Bad News Bears aka the worst fantasy team I can put together.
Quarterback: Eli Manning
2013 Statistics: 2167 yards, 10 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
A lot of people drafted Manning expecting him to be their starting quarterback. A lot of sites had him as the 13th best quarterback to draft in fantasy and for the last couple years some have said he was finally better than big brother Peyton Manning, yeah that sounds really bad doesn’t it. But the truth is Manning (Eli) was finally starting to look like a top 10 quarterback. Last year he threw 26 touchdowns and the year before that 29 and almost 5,000 yards! This year to everyones surprise he’s already thrown 15 interceptions to match the total for all of last year and the Giants have only won two games. He’s also only completing 55% of his passes which is the worst of his career.
Running Back C.J. Spiller
2013 Statistics: 362 yards, 1 touchdown and 3 fumbles on 90 carries.
This was supposed to be Spiller’s year as some sites had him ranked as high as the fourth best fantasy running back. Let’s just say he hasn’t lived up to those expectations with the numbers he’s put up. Granted he’s been fighting an ankle injury for the last few weeks but that doesn’t keep him off my list. He only has one touchdown this year and has already fumbled as many times as all of last year. To add on to that he’s one 100 yard rushing game this year and only two games that got his fantasy owners more than 10 points. He currently ranks number 37 among fantasy running backs.
Wide Receiver Marques Colston
2013 Statistics: 27 receptions for 342 yards and 1 touchdown.
Colston was thought to be one of the top receivers for fantasy this year. It’s not just that he’s a talented player but his quarterback is Drew Brees. Even with Jimmy Graham and Darren Sproles Colston should still put up decent numbers. But Colston has been very quiet this year with only 27 catches for one touchdown and we’re in week 8. He’s currently ranked 64 among all receivers in fantasy points behind teammate Kenny Stills who has made his 13 catches on the year count for 327 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also only has one game where he has more than 10 fantasy points. Trust me Colston owners are seriously rethinking picking him.
Tight End Rob Gronkowski
2013 Statistics: 10 catches for 141 yards
It’s not really Gronk’s fault that he’s on the list because he’s been injured and decided to not rush back to the game this time. But fantasy owners that drafted him high probably expected for him to come back a lot sooner than he did. It didn’t help things when reports started coming out that he was practicing and looking really good a couple weeks before his return. Let’s hope that this is all behind him now so he can start getting his owners some points.
Defense: Houston Texans
2013 Statistics: 16 sacks, 3 interceptions, 2 fumbles recovered, 1 touchdown.
Houston was supposed to be one of the best defensive teams this year with guys like J.J. Watt, Brian Cushing, and Ed Reed. But they have failed to create turnovers and get to the quarterback. It may partially be blamed on the struggles of the offense maybe they are on the field a lot longer than they would like. That still doesn’t excuse them for allowing 194 points and ranking 29th in the league in fantasy points.
