Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks
With an ADP that had him as the second or third quarterback off the board during the summer, Wilson definitely has not lived up to expectations. This obviously has to do with the multitude of injuries he's dealt with over the first three weeks. After all, Wilson suffered a sprained ankle in Week 1 before spraining his MCL this past week.
Even then, Wilson has been on the field for all but a quarter and a half during a blowout win against the San Francisco 49ers last week. Thus far, he's just not putting up the numbers most anticipated he would. Wilson ranks 26th among quarterbacks in fantasy points and has yet to finish better than 19th in a given week. In fact, two of Seattle's three games have seen him finish in the bottom quarter of starting quarterbacks in fantasy points.
Wilson has a date with a weak New York Jets pass defense this upcoming week before a much-needed Week 5 bye. If he's not at 100 percent and performing up to snuff by the time Week 7 comes calling against the Arizona Cardinals, it might end up making sense to bench him if you have an overachieving QB2 on your roster.
Eli Manning, New York Giants
Manning put up a horrendous performance in last week's loss to the division-rival Washington Redskins. It was a surprise considering how much Washington's defense struggled in the first two games. This comes on the heels of him failing to throw a touchdown pass against a disastrous New Orleans Saints defense the prior week.
We had Manning pegged as a solid value option during preseason drafts. That's now given way to thoughts that he's not much more than a decent QB2 option in 12-team leagues, much like he was prior to last year's breakout statistical season.
Despite playing some less-than-stellar defenses through three weeks, Manning currently ranks as the 20th-best fantasy quarterback, just ahead the likes of Alex Smith and Blaine Gabbert. Over the past two weeks, Manning has finished 22nd overall among his counterparts in fantasy points. That's just not good.
Blake Bortles, Jacksonville Jaguars
Bortles has been downright horrible through three weeks, as it's becomin evident that last year's statistical output might have been a fluke more than anything else. Considered by some a garbage-time fantasy quarterback, Bortles ranks 14th at his position in points and has already thrown six interceptions in two games.
Many had Bortles pegged as a solid top-10 fantasy quarterback. Unfortunately, the numbers simply don't speak to this through three weeks. Whether that changes moving forward remains to be seen, but it's apparent our preseason projections were way off.
