Most Surprising Fantasy Receivers Through Three Weeks

1. Marvin Jones Jr., Detroit Lions

What Jones has done to fill the void left by the retirement of Calvin Johnson in Detroit is rather amazing. He enters Week 3 leading the NFL with 408 receiving yards, is averaging 22.8 yards per reception and an astounding 14.1 yards per target. These are absurd splits right now.

There's also no real reason to expect a major decrease in production. While Jones won't continue at this pace moving forward, he's more than likely going to find a way to finish as a top-10 fantasy receiver when all is said and done. The splits are there. The relationship with Matthew Stafford is there, and to be honest, he's simply a better receiver than Golden Tate. That's shown through three weeks.

2. Travis Benjamin, San Diego Chargers

With both Keenan Allen and Danny Woodhead lost for the season to torn ACL's, Benjamin has taken over as Philip Rivers' favorite target in the passing game. And it's shown big time through three weeks.

The free agent signing from Cleveland has recorded 17 receptions for 229 yards and three touchdowns. Equally as telling, he's catching an absurd 81 percent of the passes thrown in his direction. And after struggling with yards per reception Week 1 (32 yards on seven catches), Benjamin is averaging nearly 20 yards on his 10 receptions in the two weeks since. Look for continued WR1 production from this young receiver.

3. Stefon Diggs, Minnesota Vikings

This one scribe is guilty of believing Diggs' fantasy production would dip with the selection of Laquon Treadwell in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft. That's obviously not been the case, as Treadwell was a healthy inactive last week. Others believed Diggs would see a decline in production due to the injury Teddy Bridgewater suffered during camp. Again, that hasn't been the case.

Diggs ranks ninth among receivers in fantasy points. He's caught 20 passes for 325 yards and two touchdowns. More than that, the sophomore is being targeted an average of nine times per game while boasting a solid 74 percent catch rate. These are splits that suggest he'll continue to act as a top-10 fantasy receiver moving forward.

4. Sterling Shepard, New York Giants

Those who saw Shepard at Oklahoma and witnessed what he did during the preseason shouldn't be too surprised here. Though, his ascension among the best young receivers in the game is surely a bit surprising.

Through three weeks, this first-year player has recorded 16 receptions for 233 yards and two scores. That 14.6 yard average per reception is tremendous. Though, it's overshadwed by Shepard's ridiculous 84 percent catch rate. Now that it appears Shepard has overtaken Victor Cruz as Eli Manning's second-favorite target, there's definitely production to be had here. That's not even up for debate. Look for WR2 upside from Shepard moving forward during his rookie season.

5. Terrelle Pryor Sr., Cleveland Browns

Now that Josh Gordon has checked himself into rehab and is likely done in Cleveland, Pryor's fantasy stock has been taken to a whole new level. This, coming off a Week 3 performance that saw him catch eight passes for 144 yards. All said, Pryor is on pace for 1,300-plus receiving yards in his first full season as a receiver in the NFL. That's quite an accomplishment.

Completely void of legitimate receiving options with Gordon gone and Corey Coleman still injury, Pryor will continue to see targets at a high clip. If so, he's going to continue presenting WR1 upside. It's that simple.
