New York Giants Sign Eli Manning to a Four-Year Extension

Add another name to the list of quarterbacks making $20-plus million per year. The New York Giants have signed Eli Manning to a four-year extension worth $84 million, the deal will run through 2019. After Ian Rapoport reported yesterday that the two sides are close, they cleared the final hurdle and the deal is done.

Manning, 34, was set to make $17 million this season in the final year of a six-year, $97.5M deal he signed back in 2010. The two-time Super Bowl winner and Super Bowl MVP will now join the likes of Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson, Drew Brees and five other quarterbacks with $20-plus million average per year.

The deal includes $65 million guaranteed and a no-trade clause. Some will definitely look at Manning's new high APY and wonder how a quarterback who has won 13 games combined the past two seasons and has a 48/41 TD/INT ratio over that span. But New York is paying Manning for stability at the position over the next few seasons and also in part because he brought the franchise two Super Bowls.

At 34, this contract will almost certainly take Manning through the end of his career and make him a Giant for life. Now the Giants just have to hope their mangled offensive line can protect Manning, which seems unlikely with Marshall Newhouse as their opening week right tackle.
