NFL: 2014 NFL Draft: Full Seven Round Mock Draft For Each AFC South Team

Well that got weird, and fast.  After over a decade of having an identity with Peyton Manning in a Colts uniform the AFC South turned into a giant mystery box when the sherrif packed his bags for Denver.  A year later after the dust has settled, the division still has plenty of unknowns, however is much clearer in the sense of what we can expect.

The Texans went from first to worst after just one season when Matt Schaub and Arian Foster went down and their defense couldn't keep up.  They now own the first overall pick in the upcoming draft and have an abundance of different directions to go when choosing who to select.  Just two years removed from the AFC championship game the Texans are just a piece or two away from getting back to their competitive nature.

I guess I won't be banned from writing if I told you the Jaguars actually over-achieved last year under new head coach Gus Bradley in what was agreed by all to be a transition year.  With no quarterback and a lack of competitive talent in todays NFL standard Bradley rallied his team in the second-half of the season winning four of their last eight games.  They even managed a three game winning streak giving the team, fan base, and more importantly the new ownership plenty of optimism heading into next year.  Good job Gus.

The Titans pulled the plug on head coach Mike Munchak after a three-year stint he was 22-26 and failed to make the playoffs.  Not long after the Titans announced the hiring of former Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.  Whisenhunt flipped Kurt Warners career back around in Arizona and led them to a Super Bowl.  Will he stick with Jake Locker as his quarterback will be the biggest story of their off-season.

The one and only team to make it to the playoffs was the Colts.  Led by the best up and coming quarterback of this era, Andrew Luck put the team on his back and more times than not found a way to win.  Finishing with an 11-5 record to win the division, Luck added to his comeback kid resume in the wild-card round of the playoffs after he led his team back from a 38-10 deficit to stun the Kansas City Chiefs 45-44.  The following week they were snapped back to reality by Bill Belichick and the Patriots, but have much success to build off of with Luck now going into just his third year.

So where do we go from here?  Each team has holes that must be filled in the off-season via free agency and the draft.  The Texans and Jaguars both pick in the first three spots, while the Titans aren't far behind at 11.  Colts fans will have the pleasure of sitting back and watching Trent Richardson highlights from his Alabama days (you know, when he was good?) thanks to General Manger Jim Irsay's swap with Cleveland for the bust of a running back for their first round selection.

Here's a seven round mock draft for each AFC South team filling needs while taking some of the best projected talent available.

First Round

Texans

Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, Louisville

One of the most talented and safest picks in the draft and it just happens to be a position of need for the Texans.  With him under center the Texans go from first-to-worst and back-to-first.  Bridgewater will help produce a few more quality years out of Andre Johnson while helping develop last years first round selection DeAndre Hopkins.  Texans could trade back if the price is right, and for the first overall pick it would have to be a very juicy offer.

Jaguars

Quarterback Blake Bortles, UCF

Still a name not a lot of people no about as of now, but Bortles is extremely poised and accurate in the pocket.  The Jaguars have to walk out of this draft with a new franchise quarterback, and while Bortles still has plenty of growing to do he is could be the most NFL-ready signal caller of the class

Titans

Offensive Tackle Cyrus Kouandjio, Alabama

The Titans are in a sticky situation here after a 7-9 season.  The quarterback position is a giant question mark yet their are gapping holes of talent at numerous positions.  The offensive tackle position is their most glaring need behind the quarterback.  Whisenhunt wisely fixes this area first and chooses to find his future quarterback later.  Teaming Kouandjio up with former first round pick and Alabama teammate Chance Warmack will turn this weakness into a talented and cohesive unit for years to come.

Colts

Traded pick for Trent Richardson

Colts fans can keep drinking during the first round just like Jim Irsay was when he wasted the teams first round pick.

Second Round

Texans

DE/OLB Vic Beasley, Clemson

Texans make a strength even stronger by infusing their front-seven with more talent and youth.  Beasley is a speedy pass rusher with good instincts and violent hands.  Wether he would play standing up or at the five-technique is undetermined, but putting him near J.J. Watt will be a valuable addition for both parties.

Jaguars

DE/OLB Trent Murphy, Stanford

Another "tweener" Murphy did it all at Stanford playing almost every position in their front seven and always produced.  Gus Bradley would love to get his hands on this chess piece while continuing to rebuild an attacking defense.  Murphy will demand double teams or will be in the backfield on a consistent basis.  One of 10 players in the nation to be a consensus All-American Murphy had 21.5 tackles for loss along with 14 sacks.

Titans

Defensive Tackle Will Sutton, Arizona State

When rebuilding the first rule is to start up front.  Sutton is a violent pass rusher form the inside posting 23.5 tackles for loss and 13 sacks in 2012.  After winning the Pac-12 defensive player of the year he was double and triple teamed in 2013, but still one the award again in 2013.  Sutton would be a great addition of talent making everyone around him better.

Colts

OG Cyril Richardson, Baylor

Although lacking talent on defense, the Colts number one priority this off-season is protecting their franchise aka Andrew Luck.  Richardson was one of the other 10 unanimous All-Americans and was named Big-12 offensive lineman of the year.  Although he played at the guard position the way he dominated his competition along with his massive frame their is optimism he can play the tackle position as well.  Either way he will help not only protect Luck, but also take pressure off the passing game altogether by paving massive holes in the run game.

Third Round

Texans

Cornerback Kyle Fuller, Virginia Tech

Fuller has the bloodlines of NFL talent as his brother Corey Fuller had a solid career for the Lions and others.  Fuller is a a great talent who loves to play physical and has the size and speed to back it up.  Injuries drop him this far, but a healthy Fuller is a future starter in a secondary in the NFL.  Texans continue to add talent to their defense.

Jaguars

CB/S Lamarcus Joyner

My man crush falls no further than this.  Joyner is a physical presence in the secondary with excellent instincts and NFL accleration.  Gus Bradley is ecstatic to add another weapon and chess piece to his attacking defense as Joyner can play safety, inside corner, and outside cornerback positions.  Joyner will fall in the draft due to his 5'8" stature but make no mistake he is pound for pound one of the best players in this draft.

Titans

Titans traded this pick to the 49ers.

Colts

ILB Chris Borland, Wisconsin

A Zach Thomas clone Borland will fit nicely in the middle playing next to last years first round Bjoern Werner.

Fourth Round

Texans

Defensive Tackle Daniel McCullers, Tennessee

A monster in the middle McCullers measures in a 6'8" 365 pounds.  He will demand double teams and make an impact in run support right away, adding great depth behind Earl Mitchell.

Jaguars

Wide Receiver Jarred Abbrederis, Wisconsin

Although the Jaguars offense has loads of potential on paper with Cecil Shorts, Ace Sanders, and Justin Blackmon the fact is they haven't been consistent.  Blame it on quarterback play but with Blackmon one suspension away form being gone for good the Jaguars need an insurance policy and Abbrederis is a solid and safe pick at this point in the draft.

Titans

Cornerback Jaylen Watkins, Florida

Brother of Sammy Watkins, Jaylen has an athletic bloodline and is a great steal this late, especially if the Titans lose Alterraun Verner to free agency.

Colts

Another pick traded to Cleveland.  Is the liquor store still open?

Fifth Round

Texans

Running Back Charles Sims, West Virginia

With the expected loss of Ben Tate, Sims is more than capable of sliding into the change-of-pace role eventually challenging Arian Foster for his job.  The Big-12 new comer of the year, Sims transfered from Houston and averaged 5.3 yards per carry and was a big play machine.

Jaguars

DE/OLB DeMarcus Lawrence, Boise State

Just taking best available while adding great depth.  Lawrence is young and has a ton of upside.

Titans

Quarterback Aaron Murray, Georgia

One of the most productive quarterbacks in the SEC over the last four years Murray would make a great developmental guy while a shaky situation with Jake Locker plays it self out.

Colts

Offensive Tackle Billy Turner, North Dakota State

Anchor for two-time defending FCS champions Turner is a punishing blocker at every level.  His small school status will drop him farther than he probably should, so Andrew Luck reaps the benefits.

Sixth Round

Texans

Wide Receiver Jeremy Gallon, Michigan

An excellent slot man to pair with Bridgewater for years.

Jags

Running Back Jeremy Hill, LSU

A safety valve for the next injury to MJD, Hill would balance Denard Robinson nicely as the thunder to his lightning.

Titans

Running Back James Wilder, Florida State

A zap of life into a position for the Titans that has seem to lost its luster.

Colts

Safety Ty Zimmerman, Kansas State

A instinctual player with out the blazing speed, Zimmerman would contribute on special teams right away before competing for a starting spot.

Seventh Round

Texans

Quarterback Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech

A developmental guy that might be better suited as a tight end with his athletic ability.

Jaguars

Tight End Colt Lyerla, Oregon

One of the most athletic and talented tight ends of the draft.  Left team and was arrested for cocaine possession three weeks later.  A seventh round flier is worth the chance Lyerla has turned his life around.

Titans

Wide Receiver Tevin Reese, Baylor

Another Baylor product to team with former teammate Kendal Wright.  Reese is a burner that lives off the double move.

Colts

Cornerback Ricardo Allen, Purdue

Was the lone bright spot on a terrible team.  More depth for the Colts with Vontae Davis a free agent.
