Percy Harvin Hip Injury a Serious Problem?
Harvin was placed on the active/PUP list with a hip injury on Thursday. It’s possible that Harvin has a slight tear in his hip labrum, but nothing will be for sure until he gets a second opinion next Tuesday. Harvin participated in OTAs and minicamp, and the injury occurred during his own workouts.. This is a big problem for fantasy owners.
If the injury requires surgery -- which head coach Pete Carroll acknowledged as a possibility – Harvin could be in danger of missing the entire 2013 season, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports. If the prognosis is as grim as assumptions, Russell Wilson will be trowing to Golden Tate, Sidney Rice, Doug Baldwin, and rookie Chris Harper.
Jets Sign Braylon Edwards, Could Start Week 1
With Santonio Holmes ailing as he tries to return from his Achilles injury, Edwards is expected to start over Stephen Hill in the X in Week 1. Jeremy Kerley would play the Z if Holmes is not able to go. Unfortunately, Edwards is likely to see Darrelle Revis as the Jets take on the Bucs in Week 1, which sucks all of the fantasy intrigue out of this situation, if there was any to begin with.
Ronnie Hillman Taking First-Team Reps, Gets Praise
Broncos head coach John Fox told media that Hillman has a “pro body now” and is capable of being a full-time running back, via Cecil Lammey of ESPN Denver. Fox said the same thing about Hillman at the NFL Combine, but sounds even more confident now, Lammey said. Hillman added weight, shed the hamstring injury, and is now more experienced in the zone blocking system that the Broncos run. Every reason for Fox to be more confident.
Hillman’s average draft position (ADP) should be on the rise, as it looks like his starting job is no fluke, even with the addition of Montee Ball.
Three Vikings First-Round Picks Sign
First it was defensive tackle Sharrif Floyd, who got a four-year deal. Floyd was pin-pointed as a top-three picks through the draft process, and took a huge drop on draft day. Special three-technique player who was a steal on draft day. That was followed by Florida State corner back Xavier Rhodes, who agreed to a four-year deal. Rhodes should start along with Chris Cook in Week 1. Finally, to complete the trifecta, Cordarrelle Patterson was signed by the team, also a four-year deal. Patterson is a bit of a prospect, but has an immense amount of upside. He could eventually be a No. 1 fantasy wide receiver.
Broncos Rookie Wide Receiver Tavarres King Standing Out
Cecil Lammey of ESPN Denver said King was showing explosive run after catch skills in practice on Thursday and has been "standing out" in practice. King isn’t expected to make an impact immediately, but this news is optimistic for dynasty owners. Not only can King win the No. 3 outside wide receiver job behind Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker if he can beat Andre Caldwell, but if he can gain traction and show development, he could become a starter when Decker hits free agency after 2013. A very good dynasty hold is King, on a team that’s arrow seems to be pointing slightly up.
Travis Kelce a Favorite of Alex Smith in Chiefs Camp
The Kansas City Star said Kelce has been Smith’s “favorite target” on “several routes”. Although when the piece was written, only quarterbacks, rookies and a handful of veterans had reported to camp. Regardless, it’s news. Kelce is a tight end with immense talent in both blocking and catching the football. He’s an extremely intriguing prospect and it sounds as if he will get the Chiefs receiving tight end job right off the bat.
Giants sign first-round offensive lineman Justin Pugh
The numbers for the deal were not disclosed. The deal was projected to be worth $8,345,898 over four years with a $4,449,744 signing bonus. He’s projected to hold a $1,517,436 cap number in 2013. What we do know is that the contract is fully guaranteed other than a sub-$500,000 workout bonus in 2016.
Offensive Tackle Eric Winston Signs With Cardinals
It’s a one-year deal for Winston, and a huge upgrade for the Cardinals. It was most definitely one of the biggest needs for the teams and now they have taken care of the need with a top-10 right tackle in the league. After being cut the last two seasons by the Texans and most recently the Chiefs, he will be on the market again after 2013. Second-year offensive lineman Bobby Massie is expected to move inside to right guard with the signing of Winston.
Raiders Ink First-Round CB D.J. Hayden
Hayden’s deal is an interesting one, to say the least. ProFootballTalk reported that Hayden got the same type of language that the top six picks have gotten this year, the salary the Raiders believe he deserves because he would have been paid that much had the Raiders not traded down. There is offset language, but Hayden will receive guaranteed training camp bonuses of $379,000 in 2014, $785,000 in 2015, and $1.1 million in 2016. His signing bonus was worth $5.88 million.
Buccaneers Corner Back Darrelle Revis Practicing, Feels Good
Revis did everything in practice today, including fielding punts and working in other spots on the return team. He’s doing all of this without a knee brace or any other protection over his surgically-repaired knee. It doesn’t sound like a man who tore his ACL just 10 months ago, nearly to the day. Revis said he felt good after practice and his hoping to do more at Friday’s practices, as he participated in under half of the team’s drills on Thurday.
Quick Hits
Baltimore Ravens wide receiver Jacoby Jones passed his physical. He’s the favorite to win the No. 2 wide receiver job.
The Carolina Panthers placed linebacker Thomas Davis on the non-football injury list and placed running back Jonathan Stewart on the active/PUP list. Stewart missed the first practice with ankle injuries and it sounds as if he could be out for some time. It’ll give rookie Kenjon Barner some extra time to run in camp and preseason.
The Chicago Bears placed defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis on the reserve/retired list. Ellis is just 28-years-old.
The Cincinnati Bengals placed wide receiver Brandon Tate, running back Bernard Scott quarterback Zac Robinson, fullback Chris Pressley, and wide receiver Tyrone Goard on the active/PUP list. Offensive tackle Andre Smith is dealing with a calf injury and declared non-football injury, although the injury is not serious. Running back Cedric Peerman is expected to miss one-to-two weeks with a foot injury that he suffered while chasing down a burglar in New Orleans and later at Virginia Beach. Rough.
The Cleveland Browns placed tight end Kellen Davis and defensive tackle Phil Taylor on the non-football injury list.
Datone Jones officially signed his rookie deal with the Green Bay Packers. Running back DuJuan Harris declared active/PUP, which could hurt his chances to make the team. I see Harris having enough talent to hitch onto another NFL roster.
The Houston Texans placed free safetyEd Reed, running back Arian Foster and wide receiver DeVier Posey on the active/PUP list. Reed’s Week 1 stats is in jeopardy, but Foster is expected to be eased in and should be back in no time.
The Jets placed Mike Goodson on the reserve/did not report list. The Jets were not expecting the running back to report, as head coach Rex Ryan said in a statement. He’s dealing with legal issue and he will appear in court in September. Chris Ivory is the clear-cut starter with no one looking over his shoulder. His fantasy value relies on his health.
49ers wide receiver Kyle Williams passed his physical and is now eligible to practice with the team for the first time since suffering a season-ending ACL injury in November. Williams should compete for the No. 2 wide receiver job with Michael Crabtree heading to the PUP.
The Seahawks placed running back Robert Turbin on the active/PUP list. This gives rookie Christine Michael a good shot at the No. 2 running back job behind Marshawn Lynch.
The Rams placed tight end Lance Kendricks on active/PUP on Wednesday, but the St. Louis Post-Dispatch is now expecting him to miss up to three weeks with a sore knee, the same one that was scoped months ago. Kendricks should be used primarily as a blocking tight end this seaosn.
The Redskins placed defensive end Adam Carriker on the reserve/PUP after he underwent surgery on his quad. He’s expected to miss four-to-five months, according to head coach Mike Shanahan. Carriker hasn’t been able to stay healthy, as he missed 14 games in 2012. He missed just one game in his first four seasons.
