This shouldn't come as too much of a surprise. The NFL has reportedly suspended Oakland Raiders linebacker Aldon Smith for a year stemming from his DUI incident back in August when he was a member of the San Francisco 49ers.
Smith, a repeat offender of the league's code of conduct policy, has long been figured to be suspended for a extensive period of time.
Remember, he was suspended for the first nine games of the 2014 season stemming from charges including another DUI and a separate conviction on gun charges. He also sat out multiple games during the 2013 campaign while spending time in rehab.
The suspension begins on Tuesday and is for a calendar year.
Smith is slated to become a free agent in March, at which point it makes sense for the Raiders to potentially sign him on the cheap.
