New York Jets 26, New England Patriots 29
In a jumbled pile up atop the AFC East, Week 7 featured two of the four teams tied for first place in this division. The Jets started the game hot by forcing Tom Brady and the Patriots to punt on their opening drive. On offense the Jets struck quickly with an impressive opening drive touchdown that was abruptly answered by the Patriots with a kick off return touchdown to tie the game at seven a piece.
It did not take long for Brady to find his game hitting tight end Rob Gronkowski for a touchdown on the Patriots next possession. The Jets offense lost momentum after the first drive and could not get anything going until a late drive to end the half was culminated with a field goal.
The Pats entered the second half with a short-lived 16-10 lead. The underdog Jets played well and in the second half swung momentum their way by outscoring the high-flying Patriots 13-3 in the fourth quarter, but Brady and the Patriots offense would not surrender. Brady marched his team downfield to score a game tieing field goal sending the game into overtime. In overtime the Pats scored first with a drive that ended in a Gostkowski field goal.
The Jets had a chance to answer with their own drive but fell short when Sanchez was sacked and fumbled. The Pats recovered the fumble ending the game. The Jets played admirably but the Patriots made just enough plays to win the game.
Tennessee Titans 35, Buffalo Bills 34
This week 7 battle pitted two AFC teams that have been desperately trying to improve on their inconsistent play. The Bills have played well at times but have yet to put together anything consistent. On the Titans side, the book reads the same. One minute they look like world-beaters and the next they look like a Pop Warner team. Both teams entered the game Sunday allowing an average of over 30 points per game, so we expected a shoot out and they did not disappoint.
This game featured an offensive explosion with both teams going back and forth all day. You got the feeling that who ever had the ball last would win. Titan’s running back Chris Johnson found a time machine because he played like it was 2009 finishing the game with 195 rushing yards and two touchdowns. The ageless Matt Hasselbeck also played well throwing for over 200 yards and a touchdown.
On the other side the Bills offense played well and quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick threw for 225 yards and three touchdowns but two costly turnovers hinders the Bills chances of a victory. For the second straight week Hasselbeck lead the Titans to a clutch win. With 1:03 left in the game Hasselbeck hit WR Nate Washington for a touchdown sealing the Titan victory over a struggling Buffalo team.
