OT Anthony Davis Applies for Reinstatement

Last offseason the San Francisco 49ers saw a wave of players leave, but most surprising was three starters announcing their retirement. While Patrick Willis and Chris Borland may stay retired, offensive tackle Anthony Davis seems ready to come back to the NFL.

The 26-year-old right tackle took time away from football last season to let his body heal, but said it was not a permanent retirement. He has held true to that, applying for reinstatement to the NFL. Assuming his reinstatement is approved, which it almost certainly will be, the 49ers still hold on to his contractual rights.

The news is desperately needed good news for the 49ers, who suffered through watching Erik Pears at right tackle last season. New 49ers' coach Chip Kelly will need a strong offensive line in order for his offense to truly succeed.
