Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski "For Sure" Will Play in Week 1

Turn Up fantasy owners! New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski told ESPN this week that he'll be good to go when the Patriots take the field to open the NFL season on Thursday Night Football in September.

Yes, September is many months away. But given Gronk is in the midst of recovery from his third back surgery of his career, there was reasonable reason for concern given the nature of chronic back injuries and how long the recovery time is.

It's also worth noting for dynasty owners and keeper leagues, Gronkowski told ESPN he has no plans of retirement and the thought hasn't even crossed his mind. It's great news for fantasy owners who certainly had to have concerns about the long-term future of Gronkowski.

When the 2017 kicks off, Gronk will retain his status as TE1 in fantasy. While Gronk's numbers last season crushed those who drafted him with just 25 receptions for 540 receiving yards and three touchdowns in eight games, he posted a career-best 21.6 yards per catch this season. While his health will be critical to monitor over the next few seasons, Gronk is locked in as the best fantasy tight end for the foreseeable future.
