Power Ranking Rookie Tight Ends Heading Into 2014 Training Camp

10. Ted Bolser, Washnington Redskins

9. Rob Blanchflower, Pittsburgh Steelers

8. Arthur Lynch, Miami Dolphins

7. Crockett Gillmore, Baltimore Ravens

6. CJ Fiedorowicz, Houston Texans

5. Richard Rogers, Green Bay Packers

With Jermichal Finley not on the roster anymore, the starting tight end job is an open competition in Green Bay. Rogers is an athletic tight end that made a name for himself after the catch, which seems to be the mold of tight end that is becoming more and more popular in today's NFL. Rogers will certainly have to earn his spot over Colt Lyerla and Andrew Quarless, but he will do so in due time and be another weapon at Aaron Rodgers's disposal.

4. Austin Seferian-Jenkins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

At first glance, Seferian-Jenkins is a physical freak that has the ability to dominate his opponent. Though when you continue to watch him, he is a player that fails to maximize his own talent. As a run blocker, he could be dominant, but he has yet to grow into his own. In regards to his receiving ability, Seferian-Jenkins will be a red zone threat, which is scary considering Tampa Bay already has Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, but he will not provide much else. His chage of direction is poor, making him a restricted route runner that is easy to keep up with.

3. Troy Niklas, Arizona Cardinals

The wide receiver group in Arizona in 2013 was superb, but tight end Rob Housler was subpar, to say the least. Housler was a possession tight end that could not catch. To Arizona's relief, Niklas is a possession tight end with solid hands. Niklas makes all the routine receptions, as well as plenty of difficult  receptions at contested catch points. Also, being a former high school offensive tackle, Niklas's ability to run block is phenomenal for a tight end. Opposing defensive ends and linebackers are often washed right out of a play when Niklas is in as a run blocker. Niklas is not the most athletic or best receiver of this tight end class, but he will be the best in-line tight end.

2. Jace Amaro, New York Jets

It did not take a professional football analyst to see that the 2013 Jets receiving corps was a joke. Amaro was the Jets first of many players drafted to hopefully fix that issue in 2014. Last year Jeff Cumberland was an abomination and was not athletic enough for the Jets style of offense. Amaro will be used heavily as a space player that will be depended upon for yards after the catch, which is where he thrives. Though, Amaro will not be much of a red zone threat being that he struggles to win in traffic. If used correctly, which he will be, Amaro will be a star.

1. Eric Ebron, Detroit Lions

Wide receiver Golden Tate is a solid addition, but he is not the explosive big play threat that Ebron is. Ebron is arguably the most athletic tight end of the 2014 class. His combination of size, speed, quickness, and agility makes Ebron a nightmare in the open field. At any moment, Ebron could turn a corner and trot his way into the end zone. While Ebron will make his money after the catch, his ability to make acrobatic receptions will certainly come in handy. Ebron will have his fair share of drops, which is by far his biggest issue, but the amount of game changing plays that he will have will be enough compensation.
