We know the NFL often means "Not For Long" as many players careers are often short as they shuffle in then out of the league. But every so often a reminder hits us when a young player who is just blossoming as an NFL starter, suddenly has to walk away from the game.
Just a day after CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reported that he was in contract negotiations with the Baltimore Ravens for an extension, Baltimore Ravens linebacker Zachary Orr announced his retirement from the NFL. Orr revealed he had to make the decision to medically retire after suffering a neck injury during the season. Contrary to La Canfora's report that said Baltimore tried to talk him out of it, Orr said in his press conference the team gave him its full support.
The 24-year-old linebacker was an undrafted free agent out of North Texas in 2014. After playing limited snaps the past two seasons, Orr emerged as a starter this season and finished the year with 132 tackles, three interceptions and seven stuffs across 15 games.
