Recapping the Raiders Week 2 Performance

After an embarrassing Week 1 effort by the Oakland Raiders, they came out firing on all cylinders and were victorious over the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon by the score of 37-33.

Offense was key for both teams, as there was no defensive effort by either football team in this surprise shootout.  A combined score of 70 points, and a combined 735 passing yards, this was an offensive battle between one of the better offenses in the league and a young, developing offensive corp.

Despite defensive stops, the were a few turnovers in this game.  Both Joe Flacco and Derek Carr threw an interception apiece, none more costly than Flacco’s in the fourth quarter which sealed the victory for the silver and black.  The Ravens also fumbled the ball on their first drive of the game.

Carr made one poor decision, which resulted in an interception leading to a Ravens lead, but the young quarterback was able to lead the Raiders offense downfield for a crucial touchdown giving them a 37-33 lead with only seconds left on the clock.

It was a defining moment for Carr in his young career.  A week after suffering a hand injury resulting in a bruised thumb, the quarterback was able to stay cool under pressure and deliver when his team needed him most.

He made a questionable pass, in the final minutes of the fourth quarter before connecting with Seth Roberts for the game-winning touchdown, but due to a penalty, the would-be pick was null.

Carr was 30/46 with 351 yards, a career high, and three touchdowns with one interception.

One of his top targets of the day was Michael Crabtree, whom Jack Del Rio gave much praise in his postgame news conference.

Crabtree had nine receptions on 16 targets for 111 yards and one touchdown.

Rookie Amari Cooper was also a standout Sunday afternoon, highlighted by a 68-yard touchdown in the first quarter; the first touchdown of his career.  The duo, also known as ACDC, paired for seven receptions on 11 targets, one touchdown, and 109 yards.

Runningback Latavius Murray had 15 carries for 65 yards and one touchdown in Sunday’s game.

The Raiders looked like a completely different team in Week 2 than they showed in the season opener against the Bengals.

Defense still has some quirks they need to resolve, and the lack of blitzing is troublesome, but the offense was able to answer back every time the defense gave up a lead.

The Raiders will travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns in Week 3.  This will be a big test for this team as they look to prove they are the right track.
