Preseason is officially over and the countdown to the regular season is underway. For the Raiders, there wasn’t much going on in their fourth preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks as they lost 31-21.
The Raiders also sat their starters in the preseason finale, allowing backups plenty of playing time to earn a spot on the roster.
As a result, quarterback Matt McGloin was named the backup to Derek Carr as the Raiders released Christian Ponder, and deservingly so.
Against the Seahawks, McGloin went 16/24 with 186 yards and two touchdown passes. McGloin had a very good preseason and moved the offense well.
A standout player from this matchup was Seth Roberts, who earned a roster spot following his performance. He had seven receptions for 110 yards and one touchdown.
Rod Streater also had a strong showing with three catches for 37 yards and one touchdown. The wide receiver missed the majority of the season last year due to injury, and the Raiders could use all the solid offensive targets as possible.
Lastly, Brice Butler had another good performance with four receptions for 62 yards.
Defensively, D.J. Hayden got the start, and appeared to be the sole starter to get reps in the preseason finale.
The lack of depth in the Raiders secondary was evident when Tyler Lockett burned Keith McGill for an easy touchdown on the second offensive play of the game.
There wasn’t much going on for the Raiders in this one, aside from the wide receivers battling it out for a roster spot.
Michael Dyer was waived, and a surprise trade took place when Sio Moore was dealt to the Indianapolis Colts for a sixth round pick. Other than that, there weren’t many surprises when the 53-man roster was announced.
The Raiders try to put it all together as they look ahead to the regular season and the Cincinnati Bengals September 12th.
