The Washington Redskins offensive line may not be able to protect Robert Griffin III, but that didn't stop the team from handing out an extention to Trent Williams that makes him the highest-paid offensive tackle in NFL history.
Williams, 27, has been among the best offensive tackles since entering the league as the fourth overall pick back in 2010 NFL draft. The Oklahoma product has earned a Pro Bowl appearance in each of the past three seasons, finishing last year with four sacks allowed.
His average salary of $13.2 million ranks No. 1 in the NFL, ahead of Tyron Smith of the Dallas Cowboys, who earns $12.2 million. In addition to this, the total guarantees of $42.25 million also ranks him first among NFL tackles, about $8 million more than D'Brickashaw Ferguson of the New York Jets.
